Minoans
Someone on Twitter was visiting Knossos & it struck them how awe -inspiring the remaining buildings, art, architecture and archaeology is.
Id been a few times & each time I trawled my books to bone up on the history of the Minoan Civilisation, Arthur Evans archaeological achievements and the legacy its provided us.
As a historian, researcher and Tutor I’ve always been surprised and disappointed that it’s not a subject with much of a profile for schools at GCSE and A levels. It’s not a part of any history A level course (anything from early Medieval to current is considered modern). It’s not even in Ancient History or Classical Civilisation courses. I think it’s an omission.
I also believe too few schools & colleges even teach Ancient History at A level anymore. I get an increasing volume of requests from clients (ie parents but also students directly) who want to study it and so ask if they can have it taught online or separate to what they can get at school. Anyone can register privately. So the answers yes. And if you feel you’d like to, send me an email and I’ll contact you re: arrangements & fees but also with a tour around what it offers and the sources explored.
In the meantime (articles on the Minoans, Knossos & Sir Arthur Evans to follow) here’s some books from my library as suggestions.
